The company

Logic Applied was established 2004 in Lund, Sweden by Andreas Nilsson, M.Sc.E.E.

The first generation of the Nixie clock, with a casing of wood, was introduced in the same year. The second generation, now with a low-profile aluminium case was released in 2007.

Since 2011, Logic Applied is a private limited company.

Nixie tube technology

The nixie tube was invented in 1954 by Burroughs Corporation, U.S.A. It is filled with neon gas, has a thin wire-mesh anode in the front and a sheet metal anode in the back. In between there are ten wires (cathodes) in shape of digits.

Contrary to common belief, the light is not caused by glowing wires, but from a high voltage discharge, similar to what you find in a neon lamp. Thus, the temperature rarely exceeds 40 °C (104 °F).
