The company

Logic Applied was established 2004 in Lund, Sweden by Andreas Nilsson, M.Sc.E.E.

The first generation of the Nixie clock, with a casing of wood, was introduced in the same year. The second generation, now with a low-profile aluminium case was released in 2007.

Nixie tube technology

The nixie display was introduced in 1954 by Burroughs Corp. The glass tube contains a wire-mesh anode, and multiple cathodes in the shape of digits. Grounding one cathode surrounds it with an orange glow discharge.

The tube is filled with neon gas at low pressure, and although it resembles a vacuum tube in appearance, its operation is a variant of neon lamp, and rarely exceed 40 °C (104 °F).
